Hauser & Wirth: Home of visionary artistic projects
In the 1980s, Ursula Hauser, co-founder and director of a family retail business in Switzerland, developed an interest in contemporary art and began acquiring modern masters, which turned into a true passion. In 1992, the art collector, her son-in-law Iwan Wirth and her daughter Manuela founded Hauser & Wirth, a gallery based in Zurich. “The niche for us was artists who were making more complicated work, work that needed support, that was highly important but not commercially successful. A lot of the artists we take on don’t have a market — our job is to build it.” The gallery, which represented 93 artists or their estates in 2021, engages with art, education, conservation and sustainability. Founded in Venice, California in 1975 by Peter Goulds, L.A. Louver is committed to contemporary art through a distinguished exhibition program.
